What do you have to gain?

Are you resistant to change? If so, you are definitely not alone.
Change sucks.
Working with people that have digestive issues means I ask a lot of people to change what they eat.
And, changing what we eat is especially challenging because we can’t avoid food. In fact, we have to face food many times every single day. Oh the temptation and the dread and the agony!
But here’s the thing, while change is hard, sometimes staying the same is even harder.
For people with IBD or for that matter, most chronic issues, not changing means much more of the same or even worse. And, isn’t suffering getting really old?
So, one of the best pieces of advice I can give you if you are having to change something in your life in order to get healthy, is to focus on the possibility of wellness. Focus on what you CAN have instead of what you can’t have. Focus on the eventual outcome of feeling amazing and really enjoying life.
And, yes I know that even saying this is probably irritating to hear but sometimes the truth is hard to hear. So, just give it a try.
The next time you are really mad about not being able to grab for a piece of “lab created” sugary thing or go through a drive through for dinner, try reminding yourself that change is hard but worth every moment of sacrifice to get well.
